after much temptation and desires for an image makeover, i went for a haircut at hollywood secrets!

as the name suggest, the place is really quite secretive... third floor up scotts shopping centre.. gee i wont even know or go to that place if not for ngiap acting as my tour guide.

anyway bobo, my hairdresser, rox! my hair's quite funky now haha, but the only prob is that i looked abit like monkey now, esp. due to the fact that im sunburnt. so now i pretty look like a pinkish monkey. yups.

and after thhat meet selene and aiwern and lihong they all (actually b4 the haircut) and vicki and yacong later at the foodcourt. their siblings r quite cute. haha.

then went to lucky plaza for some hot shoooting action... in the arcade. we played like the bowling shooting game, and basically there is a ball for u to kick and u just have to whack that ball damn hard to knock the virtual pins down. yups and we wont quite alot of ticket lol.

and we then saw this professional family of gamblers, with daddy gambler staring at the token machine with full attentiveness and maximum concentration while he slot in tokens and tokens and watch the direction where the tokens rolled down to the pile of tokens while mummy token meticulously collects the pile of tickets generated.

in case u dunno what a token machine is, its this machine where theres a pile of tokens piled up at the bottom, and moving in and out, with a huge slit for the coins to fall down and u win more tokens. i have always thaught that its a scam by evil arcade managements and those tokens are glued to the bottom so that they will never fall off. but i was wrong. tokens after tokens, bigdaddy put and tokens after tokens he had won. his daughters looked attentively at thier dad, maybe in pure admiration or perhaps learining the art of gambling at arcade so that they too, could earn a living for themselves in future.

"maybe they were out to win that Xbox" ngiap suggested.

u needed at least 65000 tickets to win that :|. but as teachers always taught us those who persevee will be greatly rewarded at the end of the day

a crazy train of thought suddenly came across my mind. if u are willing to devote your time everyday to dwell at the arcade and at that machine u could earn at refrigerator, a tv, a phone, a mp3 player and all kind of appliances u need for a little amount of money. isnt that amazing? just a token could change ur life.

and the gang of 6 (me ngiap vicki vicki's sis yacong and her bro) went to 7 elevens to reward themselves with slurpees after a heavy game of throwing balls. they then went to paragon to enjoy some of the posh aura around there and philip caught the once-in-a-lifetime chance to see a chio sarong party girl in real life!!! she happens to be the other male guy's friend btw ;)

isnt it such a waste to waste ur time boozing and dancing and get screwed when u could like study to earn a degree or go play some healthy game of tennis or help needy ppl in charity organisations? gee i sounded really gay. hahahaha

You scored as Buddhism. Your beliefs most closely resemble those of Buddhism. Do more research on Buddhism and possibly consider becoming Buddhist, if you are not already.

In Buddhism, there are Four Noble Truths: (1) Life is suffering. (2) All suffering is caused by ignorance of the nature of reality and the craving, attachment, and grasping that result from such ignorance. (3) Suffering can be ended by overcoming ignorance and attachment. (4) The path to the suppression of suffering is the Noble Eightfold Path, which consists of right views, right intention, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right-mindedness, and right contemplation. These eight are usually divided into three categories that base the Buddhist faith: morality, wisdom, and samadhi, or concentration. In Buddhism, there is no hierarchy, nor caste system; the Buddha taught that one's spiritual worth is not based on birth.

the title as nothing to do with this entry btw.

lets talk abt my two consecutive outings!

on monday, i went to my class pool outing at lucky plaza.

"hey dude"

"ye...yessssss?"

"u have two choices. the red pill on my left palm will lead u to the REALITY. if u take the blue pill on my other palm you will be back to your own life and you will not remember a sh8t today."

*this guy looks like a pedophile... gee i better take that red pill... god knows what he will do to me if i did fell asleep.

whoosh whoosh blah blah meow meow woof woof gee gee bah bahh loo loo ~~~~

"where am i? omg this place SUCKS BIG TIME! why is the pool table so big? why are there ppl smoking like nobody's business? didnt they see the "no-smoking" sign for goodness sake? and why is this stick so bloody small?" SO DARK, SO SMELLY, OH NO DUN TELL ME IM IN INDIA?!

"welcome....to reality. this is the MAT-rix"

********************************

well here i am back in malaysia... sigh missed singapore on my 1st day here. went to play billards after my lunch at pizza hut.. which is dirt cheap btw.. everything is half the price of singapore's haha. had pizzas, fried fritters which totally kicks arse, speghetti, and smoothies! omg its so darn nice!

not for the billards though. its called "vip-pool" btw which is obviously an irony. the moment i step in the place, i smelt the sweet smells of death . it was smothered with cigarette smoke and ppl are talking in languages which i hardly comprehends. i was so shocked to see the tables. they r gigantic (well maybe everything in singapore is relatively smaller) and u play with a small stick (maybe its just because the tables r too big). and its my 1st time that i saw ppl playing billards. it was quite a bitchy game though. you have to sink in the red ball 1st before u can sink a colour ball, so that means if u did manage to sink a red ball but failed to sink a coloured ball u still lose a turn and have to start all over again. urrgh frustrating.

on a lighter note, it took me much attempts and effort to explain to them the concepts of 8-ball. alas they hav much difficulty differentiating between solids and stripes when billards is such a more cheem game.

also i was so shocked that my uncle could actually play pool.i mean like, he looked so cranky and senile, yet he totally whooped my sorry arse today with his deadly accuracy and precision. guess u shldn't judge a book by its cover.

so in conclusion,
$$$ paid for pool : 21.60 ringggits
amount of toxic gas breathed in: 10000000000000 dm^3
amount of tar collected in my lungs: 5kg
getting pwned by some old snooker guru: priceless

1. scholarship

everyone wants it, in fact everyone is in this scholarship-grabbing frenzy. u can see queues forming up in front of general office(i thinkthat b4 this 3/4 of the sch population actually knows where general office is. ha) just to get this MOE form which will give them free school fees and 700 bucks.

on the surface this is nothing wrong. well everyone wants to have extra pocket money and plus the prestige of getting a scholarship is just so irresistable. but come and think of it, RJ's school fee is a measly 28 bucks a mth, which is like, a 2-hour game of pool or 4 movie ticket. tell me anyone in rj cannot afford that. 700 dollars a year is like nothing to most of the ppl in rj either. (u cant even go to japan with that kind of $$$)so why are there still ppl fighting for it? prestige? fame? or egged on by peer pressure and kiasuism? why isit that ppl in hcjc and rj snapped up all the slots for this scholarship when there is much more needy students from other jcs who desperately need this money or are even too poor to afford school fee?

wouldnt it be much better if these scholarships are given to students of "lousier" jcs (what an irony considering that a principal from a renowned jc said that : all jcs offer the same kind of jc education) so that they will be motivated to work harder and thus have better prospect in the future? why not give these money to those really needy ppl so that they will not drop out of sch to work? 700 bucks can help 25 jc students. and like i said earlier its really nth for the rjc students. well of course there are poor ppl in rjc, and thus these ppl are those who really should fight for these scholarships but alas their chance r so diluted after this mad scramble.

what is worse is that even the govt is supporting this craze. at the a level result day everyone got this bag full of scholarship informations and even emagazines ncouraging ppl to go overseas.no wonder nus and ntu's quality declines year by year :(. isnt it a comical sight? ppl r dying to get out of singaproe while foreigners are dying to get in singapore.

well 700 bucks is like, 1 1/2 month of my sch fee? i propose that we should set up a "help philip fund" so that i could stay in rj haha. all i need is 8 ppl to give me thier 700 bucks and i can survive a year. haha.

now 2nd thought of the day. ppl have asked me why i want to stay on in singapore instead of gg back to m'sia. why? it wont take much of an intelligent being to figure out that singapore is much better than m'sia. im not a super-pro-malaysian guy like woo, cos i know the state which the country is in. sometimes i dun see why ppl are complaining dat singaporesux and want to get outta here. sure there are problems but at least 1)ur officials are not corrupted 2)ur govt's administration is efficient (they dun take 3 mths to make a passport right? or finish it in a day if u pay them 100 bucks?) 3) theres no traffic jam 4)u dun hav radical mad clerics that control 10% of te country, 5) a good education system , etc.

speaking of edu system, im glad that my parent made the right decision to send me here in pri 1. and im really really really glad that i went to ri. the 4 years of experiences are just so unforgettable. im proud to say that i wouldnt be what i am if i didnt go to ri. the rafflesian spirit now is just like a part of me now.

sadly to say rj dun have this rafflesian spirit (continued)

You Are 30% Left Brained, 70% Right Brained

The left side of your brain controls verbal ability, attention to detail, and reasoning.

Left brained people are good at communication and persuading others.

If you're left brained, you are likely good at math and logic.

Your left brain prefers dogs, reading, and quiet.

The right side of your brain is all about creativity and flexibility.

Daring and intuitive, right brained people see the world in their unique way.

If you're right brained, you likely have a talent for creative writing and art.

Your right brain prefers day dreaming, philosophy, and sports.

"In Your Eyes"
What on earth am I meant to do
In this crowded place there is only you
Was gonna to leave now I have to stay
You have taken my breath away
Is the world still spinning around
I don't feel like coming down
It's in your eyes
I can tell what your thinking
My heart is sinking too
It's no surpriseI've been watching you lately
I want to make it with you
Destiny has a funny way
When it comes and takes all your cares away
I can't think of a single thing
Other than what a beautiful state I'm in
Is the world still spinning around
I don't feel like coming down
It's in your eyes
I can tell what your thinking
My heart is sinking too
It's no surpriseI've been watching you lately
I want to make it with you
well i suppose in this context...i want to make chocolate and bake cakes! the gals seemed to be so pro in it... well theres no home econs in RI :(

i dun get it. dun we hav a good time together? why does she feel that shes "not clicking" with the class?

really want to cry now after so many blows come in such a short period of time

Philip Lim 11:49 AM

scenario: u have been getting a1s since primary school for your chinese/higher chinese. chinese has always been ur forte and u r immensely proud of your achievements in this subject. then suddenly,

u got an a2 for higher chinese.

the world came crashing down on u as u have to settle for dismal 7 points while everyone around u is a six-pointer. english wont help either sinceu screwed up english too.

*********************
bah im still trying to get over it...it really dented my pride wtf.

but anyway im happy that i can get into rj yup so, sorrie to everyone whom i throw my temper to and sorry to all the people online yesterday who hav to endure my bitching.

ok and for people who dun know what the hell im talking about heres a quick guide to singapore education:

bacically u have 6 years of primary school education which then you will take Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) and be posted to different schools and streams based on your results.

what the hell is "stream"?: basically there is 3 type of "streams" or diffferent ability groups: special, express, normal (academic and technical). special stream is similar to express stream except that special stream students take an additional subject which is higher mother tongue (e.g advanced mother tongue which is much more difficult than normal mother tongue) in singapore students are allowed to take their mother tongue subjects (*for example the malays study malay, the chinses study chinese, the indials study hindi or tamil....etc) along with english. express/special stream students take 4 years to complete secondary school education whereas normal stream takes 5 years. at the end of secondary 4 express/special course students then take their ordinary-level examinations which for they will be sitting for 8-11 subjects depending on their abilities, again. i was in Raffles Institution, the most prestigious school in singapore ;)

and no, we dun include stuffs like civics and moral, arts and designing, and etc so there wont be freak cases like 16 a1s as in the case in malaysia. anyway i took physics, biology, chemistry, Additional math, Elementary math, combined humanities (social studies/history), literature, normal and higher chinese and last but not least english.

and anyway all subjects except for mother tongue are tested in english and the papers is planned and marked by cambridge examination syndicate. (thus the name Cambidge General certificate of education ordinary level) syllabus is planned and coordinated by cambridge university and the ministry of education of singapore. so there is a level of difficulty since singapore follows british education system.

pupils then colllect their reuslts somewhere near the end of february where then they will have to apply online for a junior college or polytechnic or ITE. the socring system is called L1R5 where and a1 (75 markes and above) is one pt, a2, is 2 pts and b3 is 3 pts and so on.... so basically they will take the results of your language and ur other 5 subjects and lesser the points the better and 6 points is considered "perfect score" and pursued by alot of people.(at least in my school)

hence in this case my language is either higher chinese or english and they will take the best performing ones. since by best score is an A2, my L1 is 2 pts and since i have A1s for the rest of the subject i got 7 points. bah. which is really really unlucky.

and to get into raffles junior college, you will need at least 9 points or 5 pints with bonus points. (dun feel like going into that). yup and in junior college u will study for 2 years which u wil take your cambridge "Advance" level examinations. which then u will go to university.

yup and tats it. a guide to singapore education.
